lamentsuffering of the innocentvulnerability

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger. Is it...: or, It is nothing pass by: Heb. pass by the way?

Lamentations 1:12 (KJV)

The voice of Lamentations is not one that rushes to comfort or explanation, but one that insists we witness suffering without turning away. Today’s news carries many such cries—from those caught in violence they did not choose, from those displaced by forces beyond their control, from the young pressed into service they never sought. The verse does not promise resolution or swift justice, but rather a summons: to see, to acknowledge, to let the reality of another’s anguish touch us rather than remain distant observers. In a world where the vulnerable so often go unseen, there is something sacred in the refusal to look away.

What prompted this

Across the world today, civilians bear the weight of violence, displacement, and suffering—from buses struck in active conflict to children forcibly conscripted, from disease spreading across borders to families fleeing flood waters. The vulnerable have little shelter from the forces arrayed against them.
