lamentvulnerabilitycare for the vulnerable

LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear; To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

Psalm 10:17-18 (KJV)

When violence seems to multiply—in schools, in homes, in the margins of cities, in distant detention centers—the impulse is to look away or to demand swift retribution. Yet the Psalmist invites a different posture: to name suffering before God and to trust that the vulnerable are not invisible, even when systems fail them and the powerful act with impunity. The verse does not promise immediate deliverance or easy answers, but it does refuse the silence that allows oppression to continue unchecked. In a day when so many are hurting—the bereaved, the displaced, the imprisoned, those living in fear—perhaps the first faithful act is to listen, to bear witness, and to hold before God the names and stories of those society has forgotten.
