wisdomhumilitythe long view

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Proverbs 27:12 (KJV)

There is something worth sitting with in the gap between what is promised and what is possible. When we hear grand assurances uncoupled from explanation—where the money comes from, how the mechanism works, what the cost might be—we might ask ourselves what kind of wisdom we are being invited to exercise. The world moves according to its own laws: storms come, markets respond to deeper forces, bodies carry the consequences of neglect. A reader might wonder what it means to take responsibility for the future, rather than simply to hope that someone else will manage it. On days like this, perhaps the invitation is not to judge but to notice the difference between the language of quick fixes and the patient, unglamorous work of actually tending to what we have been given.

What prompted this

Today's headlines reveal a tension between promises made for immediate gain and the complex realities of how the world actually works—economic constraints, climate change, natural disasters, and human suffering that move at their own pace, indifferent to election cycles.
