lamentvulnerabilitymercy

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger. Is it...: or, It is nothing pass by: Heb. pass by the way?

Lamentations 1:12 (KJV)

Today’s headlines carry the weight of accumulated grief—the person sheltering in wreckage, the family displaced from home, the child lost in sudden collapse, the migrant in transit. Lamentations is the voice of those who cry out not for judgment but for witness, asking if anyone sees what has been lost. The verse does not promise swift resolution or explain why suffering falls where it does; it simply insists that sorrow deserves to be seen, that pain does not disappear when we look away. On a day when so many carry fresh wounds, the ancient words invite us not to offer answers but to look steadily, to acknowledge that what is broken matters, and to sit with the reality that much suffering in this world remains unredressed and unfair.

What prompted this

The news is dominated by suffering and loss—from active conflict zones where civilians shelter in fear, to sudden tragedies that take lives without warning, to migrations and deportations that uproot the vulnerable. Alongside these are disputes over resources and power, each carrying human cost.
